About the EEE Program
In early 2011, Arlingtonians for a Clean Environment (ACE) received a grant from the Arlington County Community Development Fund to kick-start the Energy Efficiency Education (EEE) Program. High utility bills can be devastating to lower income households, who may have little extra to spare. The EEE program focuses on increasing energy efficiency and reducing energy bills for low-income residents in the Arlington County Neighborhood Focus Areas. Modeled after the Master Gardeners program, volunteers are trained with comprehensive energy efficiency training and subsequently utilize their knowledge to perform weatherization and retrofits of apartments units. The grant makes resources available for the volunteers to perform energy efficiency improvements in 150 low-income apartments units during the first year.
In addition, this program will include outreach and education focusing on how residents can save energy, water, and money and help the planet. Volunteers will help educate residents on ways they can further increase their living comfort through easy, practical changes in their habits, which maximize their cost savings as well.
In the inaugural year of the program, our partners at APAH helped us identify two apartment complexes to begin our energy retrofits - Courthouse Crossing and Marbella apartment complexes, managed by Paradigm.
