ACE sponsors volunteer events, such as stream cleanups, invasive plant removals, highway cleanups, and storm drain markings, as well as educational Green Living events. Our Featured Upcoming Events:

Volunteer for the Green Living Expo. To help with volunteer tasks on the day of the event, please e-mail us and let us know your shift preference, 7:30 to 10:30 a.m., 10:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m., 12:30 to 3:30 p.m, or 3:00 to 5:30 p.m. Please also let us know if you speak another language and are willing to serve as an informal interpreter.

Park & Neighborhood Cleanup. Saturday, February 25, 10:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m. Meet in the Lyon Village parking lot by the Giant at 3115 Lee Highway (at Spout Run Parkway), Arlington. Join ACE to pick up trash and remove invasive plants from Thrifton Hill Park, the surrounding roadways, the Custis Bike Trail, and Spout Run sream. Four Mile Run Watershed Cleanup. Saturday, March 12, 9:00 a.m. to noon. Join ACE at Shirlington Park and Barcroft Park. Registration is required to volunteer@arlingtonenvironment.org or 703-228-6406. Please specify which location you are registering for when you call or email. (Call the Arlington County Park Rangers to register for other locations: 703-525-0168.)

ACE Annual Meeting. Wednesday, March 14, 6:30 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. at the Arlington Central Library, 1015 N. Quincy Street, Arlington. The theme for this event is alternative transportation with a look at electric cars, bikesharing, electric charging stations, and more. Several electric/hybrid cars will be on display. The meeting will also include an overview of ACE events for 2012, ACE board of director elections and light refreshments. Green Living Expo. Saturday, March 17, 10:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. Washington-Lee High School, 1301 N. Stafford Street, Arlington. Save the date for the biggest event of the Spring! Come learn how to green your home, apartment, community, and lifestyle. Featuring green vendors, seminars, a raffle, children's activities, and more. We also need volunteers to help from 7:00 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. Email us to volunteer.

Saving Money while Saving the World: How a New Residential Energy Efficiency Program Helps Us All. Monday, April 2. Refreshments at 7:00 p.m., Program and discussion at 7:30 - 9:00 p.m. at Falls Church Community Center, 223 Little Falls Street, Falls Church. Did you know ENERGY STAR has a program for existing homes? Learn more about how to achieve greater health, comfort, and savings through energy improvements that also increase the value of your home. Join Local Energy Alliance Program (LEAP), a local nonprofit, for a fun and informative presentation on the Home Performance with ENERGY STAR program and the chance to win a free in-home energy review by LEAP professional staff (they are giving away five!). Rain Barrel Train the Trainer Workshop. Thursday, February 23rd. 7 PM – 8:30 PM. Annandale, VA. We are looking for volunteers to help support the Northern Virginia Rain Barrel program in 2012! Attend this workshop to learn about rain barrels and how to assemble them. In exchange for committing to volunteer at one (or more) of the upcoming 2012 rain barrel workshops, you will receive a complementary rain barrel. REGISTRATION IS REQUIRED. Email Aileen at awinquist@arlingtonva.us with your name, phone number, home address, and email address to sign up for the workshop. Space is limited. After you register, you will receive an email to confirm your registration with more detailed information about the workshop.

New StormwaterWise Landscapes Program! Have you been thinking about installing a raingarden, cistern, or pervious pavers? The Arlington StormwaterWise Landscapes Program provides County residents and business owners with funding to install small-scale practices that will reduce stormwater runoff from their property. Through a lottery system, 40 applicants will be selected for the program pilot in 2012. Application deadline is February 29.

Invasive Plant Removal Events. Help protect our watersheds and keep Arlington County parks beautiful. There are several monthly invasive plant removal events sponsored by Arlington County Invasive Plant Program. For more information and to register, email Sarah Archer or call 703-228-1862.
